Belleville is the seat of Hastings County and a regional service centre between Toronto and Kingston. The Bay of Quinte and Quinte West, Prince Edward County, and the Trent–Severn Waterway are nearby.
Highway 401 runs through the city, and the VIA Rail Quebec–Windsor corridor stops downtown. Loyalist College is a major post-secondary institution.
