Ontario's cities range from massive metropolitan areas like Toronto (population 2.9 million) to smaller regional cities serving specific areas of the province. Ontario has more than 50 incorporated cities and hundreds of towns and townships. Most of the largest are clustered in the south, especially around the Greater Toronto Area and the Golden Horseshoe along the west end of Lake Ontario.
Toronto is the largest city in Ontario and in all of Canada, with about 2.9 million residents. Ottawa, Canada's national capital, is second in the province at just over one million.
