Collingwood is a regional centre for tourism, particularly skiing at the nearby Blue Mountain resort, and has a well-preserved heritage downtown. The town's economy combines tourism, manufacturing, and a growing residential base.
Highway 26 runs along the Georgian Bay shoreline through the town. Wasaga Beach lies to the east.
The downtown core along Hurontario Street, the harbour and waterfront, the Cranberry area, and the area near Blue Mountain to the west are central to the town.
