Guelph is home to the University of Guelph, a national leader in agricultural and veterinary research. The city has a well-preserved 19th-century downtown built largely of local limestone, including the landmark Church of Our Lady Immaculate.
Highway 401 runs south of the city, with Highway 7 connecting east toward the GTA and west toward Kitchener-Waterloo. The GO Transit Kitchener line stops in Guelph.
Downtown Guelph (the wedge between the rivers), the Ward, St. George’s, Old University, the South End, and the West End are the city’s main neighbourhood clusters.
