Kawartha Lakes is a large rural municipality in Central Ontario with a population of approximately 79,000 residents spread across a vast area encompassing numerous lakes, rivers, and communities. Created in 2001 through the amalgamation of several townships and the town of Lindsay, Kawartha Lakes is known for its cottage country, waterways, and outdoor recreation opportunities.

The municipality includes the urban center of Lindsay along with smaller communities like Bobcaygeon, Fenelon Falls, and Omemee, each with unique character. The Trent-Severn Waterway flows through Kawartha Lakes, providing a scenic canal system connecting Lake Ontario to Georgian Bay. The area's economy is based on tourism, agriculture, recreation, and serving as a commuter community for Peterborough and the Greater Toronto Area. Kawartha Lakes offers a mix of rural lifestyle, waterfront living, and small-town amenities.

Highway 7 runs east-west through the southern portion of Kawartha Lakes, connecting to Peterborough (30 km east) and areas west. Highway 35/115 provides north-south access through Lindsay to the Greater Toronto Area (approximately 135 km south). County roads connect the various communities throughout the municipality. The extensive waterway system includes dozens of lakes connected by rivers and canals, making it a paradise for boating and fishing. Lindsay serves as the administrative and commercial center with Kent Street as the main downtown corridor.
