Owen Sound is the regional centre for the Bruce-Grey area and the southern terminus of the Bruce Peninsula. It is the birthplace of Tom Thomson and includes a historic downtown around the Sydenham River. The town hosts the annual Salmon Spectacular fishing derby.
Highway 6 connects north to Tobermory at the tip of the Bruce Peninsula and south toward Guelph. Highway 26 follows the Georgian Bay shoreline to Collingwood.
Downtown Owen Sound around 2nd Avenue East, the East Hill, the West Hill, Harrison Park, and the harbour area on Sydenham River define the city.
