Smiths Falls is best known for its central position on the Rideau Canal, with three locks within the town and the Rideau Canal Visitor Centre. Historically a hub for Hershey's chocolate, it has more recently become known for the Tweed/Canopy Growth cannabis facility headquartered there.
Highway 15 connects south to Kingston and north to Ottawa. The town is on the VIA Rail corridor.
Downtown Smiths Falls around Beckwith Street, the Lower Reach Park area along the canal, and the residential neighbourhoods on the north and south sides of the canal are the main parts of the town.
